Interesting take…

The Networks are making a multi-billion dollar bet that while loyal, local college football fans may be alienated by the changing tides, they are going to draw in millions and millions of new fans with more NFL-esque version of the sport where every Saturday is Ohio State vs. Penn State, followed by Texas vs. Alabama, followed by Georgia vs. Oklahoma, followed by Michigan at USC.

Less charm, more blockbusters.

The Righteous Prevails

Congrats to Eli Gemstone, the 2021 Champion of the Greatest Pool in the History of the World! He wrests the Trophy from John McKay with an emphatic UNDERDOG performance by the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The Champion – Eli Gemstone.

Mike Lynn’s Wolverines got the only other win of the week securing “best loser” status.

It all comes down to this

College Football Pool 2021 Week 13:

It all comes down to this.

Who did you pick in August? And can that team deliver on Championship Saturday?

Eli “the righteous gemstone” is our leader after a 6-0 week. Bama stuggles in his double game but the pool is his. To lose.

Meathead sits in 2nd place after a 48 point week. His Dawgs continue to add to his double points- 218 for the year.

Mike Lynn goes 5-1 and  falls to 3rd place.

John McKay slinks to 4th, Sconny was his only loss at the Beloved, which is perfect.

Guido’s Penn St and La Tech lost. Always felt like he had blanks in the gun this year.

Zendejas sits in 6th. Nebraska loses (again) along with Texas A&M and  Coach Bald.

The Hagg dropped his double game with the Buckeyes and SMU took a ding.

And Scott LeDoux, off the mat, wins the week! Clemson picks up 22 points shutting out So. Carolina.

All the sisters are beating their guys!

Turkey Time

Happy Thanksgiving week everyone! It’s my favorite week of the year when family, friends, food, and football take center stage.

One full week left, sure to set the stage for a final double game that should have an unprecedented number of championship contenders.

We had 4 6-0 records this week, 2 teams went 5-1. Lots of big numbers put up, but as you all know, it could have been even better with a different start here or a different double there.

John McKay goes 6-0, taking the lead. An 8 point double win by Coastal C. helps keep him within striking  distance.

Guido bounces back with a 6-0 week. He gets shutout wins by Penn State (20 points) and Kent State (11). He’s tied for third.

Meathead’s 6-0 week results in 42 points. No road wins, no double spread to cover. The “wuss” was a self-fulfilling prophecy. 5th place, a lot of guys to jump to get to 1st.

The Hagg scored 50 with his 6 wins – and it could’ve been better if he had doubled the Buckeyes over Sparty. Saving those points for next year, Merle?

Zendejas goes 5-1 and wins the week with 51 points. Okie State pitches a road shutout in his double game scoring 22 points.

Eli Gemstone’s mental error was compounded by having to watch John Wheeler’s squad cost him the lead. And Bama looks VERY beatable with 2 weeks left and Georgia laying in wait.

Mike Lynn inexplicably leaves 10-1 Louisiana on the bench and pays the price falling out of the lead. Michigan covered on the road in his double game to save the week.

And Scott LeDoux! Oh my, that was an emphatic double-loss by Oregon. The Gators lose to Missouri and Nevada gets beat in OT by A Force. 14 points for the week. But I’m thankful that Scotty will be saying the hallowed phrase, “With the first pick of the 2022 draft…”

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

Too close to call…

2021 marked the return of the Greatest Pool in the History of the World and it’s living up to the hype. All the teams at the top are flawed. Big winners are common on people’s benches.

And upsets? Ooohhh, I could tell you stories.

Mike Lynn remains in the lead, but he has company. A MACtion loss on Tuesday started his wreckage, followed by Auburn blowing a 28-3 lead, losing at home to Mississippi State. War Damn Eagle indeed.

Co-leader John McKay’s San Joses did NOT know the way to beat Utah State and Coastal Carolina is finally starting to be Coastal Carolina.

Eli is a mere point back in 3rd place. With his Irish win tucked away safely on the bench, he gets a home loss by Marshall and another loss by 10.5 point favorite Iowa State. Rest assured, John Wheeler’s name was cursed in West Fargo Saturday night.

Meathead, with a pummeling of his Hoosiers at home by Rutgers, went 5-1. The Dawgs took care of biz at Tennessee. He climbs to 4th place.

Going back to the “theme” this week. We have one of the sausage contenders dropping from 2nd all the way back to 5th  place:

Guido. His Sooners “not #1 pick worthy” play caught up with them in Waco, dropping his 3rd double game. Penn State loses to Michigan and FAU gets handled by ODU. A pool-low 16 points for the week.

Zendejas’s lone loss was by his Aggies in The Grove to Ole Miss. He gets his 2nd straight weekly win with 41 points.

The Hagg’s Longhorns (30 point favorites) have hit rock (chalk) bottom losing to Kansas at home. His La Monroe “lone start” of the season resulted in their “lone loss” to Arkansas State.

And Scotty LeDoux answered the bell for the 11th round, getting knocked down twice. (Ball State and Nevada losses). He looks like he’s going the distance. Round 12 next week!

Calm before the storm

Four weeks left and we have a wide open race. Just 19 points separates 1st from 5th place.

Week 10 was a stagnant week at the top.

Mike Lynn gets losses from Cal(vid) ending Zona’s long losing streak and Auburn chasing points in Texas. He scores 23 and leads. Barely.

Bevo takes 3 losses. Wake Forest is still allowing TD’s this morning, Colo State loses to Coach Bald and FAU gets beat at home by Marshall.

John McKay’s Badgers piled up some points, but losses by Toledo and New Mexico derailed his week.

Eli finally started Michigan State. Miami, OH lost to in-state rival Ohio. And Bama struggled to 8 points in his double game.

Meathead went 6-0, The Dawgs won by 37. And didn’t cover.

Zendejas had a MONSTOR week scoring 58 points. A Colorado St win and he would have been flirting with the never-achieved 70 point week. He passes the Hagg and sits in 6th place.

The Hagg slides to 7th, Va. Tech scores 3 in a loss to BC and SMU drops it’s  2nd straight game.

Scott LeDoux’s boat sprung a leak vs. Illinois, Florida’s season goes belly-up vs. So Carolina, and Baylor got upset vs. The Frogs.

The Sisters lead is slowly shrinking.

One month to go. Choose wisely.

Upsets rule the week (year)

November, Championship Month in the CFB Pool is upon us.

Picking the favorites? That’s been more of a gambit as Vegas has experienced a higher level of upsets this year. And not just garden variety coin flips, we’ve seen the most double digit losses in the pool in the last 5 years.

Mike Lynn’s AZ State (-15) loses at home to Wazzou. Michigan loses to Sparty in a vintage Harbaugh loss. He clings to the lead.

Bevo loses a double game with La Tech vs ODU or he’d be the leader.

John McKay’s Kentucky Wildcats got cow-belled in Starkville. He moves up to 3rd passing…

Eli Gemstone with losses by Pitt (-10), Buffalo (-14), and Iowa State (-7).

Meathead’s Iwegans have gone off the rails getting hammered by Bucky.

The Hagg gets a first loss from SMU.

Zendejas switched Tulsa (loss to Navy) for Kansas State (win over TCU) and he started Nebraska. And that’s his season in a nutshell.

Finally, a shout out to Scott LeDoux and his Big10 West leaders. Goldy scored 9 points leading his team to a 6-0 week. He’s got Zendejas in his sights.

tight race at the top

A jumble at the top this week as Bevo hooks up 6 winners for 55 points powered by 5 road wins. Oklahoma, Washington, FAU, Miss St and Wake Forest caps it by scoring 70 points in his doubler at Army. He moves up to 2nd.

Mike Lynn needed all 6 wins to stave off the charge. His #1 pick Cincinnati showed a bit of the stress of a G5 contender at Navy.

Eli’s A Force Falcons were his only loser – a home loss to the SDSU Aztecs. His Panthers put Clemson out of their misery and the Bama double play keeps paying dividends.

John McKay’s downward trend continues as Coastal Carolina was exposed at App St and he gets vexed by La Monroe for the 2nd week this season. This is a great bit of exceptional CFB Pool irony, as a La Monroe loss 2 years ago gave him the Pool championship over Zendejas.

Meathead called it in his picks. A 2-4 week, but the undefeated UTSA Roadrunners salvage a lost week in his doubler. He’s slides to best of the lousiest status.

The Hagg took losses by NC ST, V Tech and Texas Tech.

Zendejas week was highlighted by Wyoming (20 pt fave) losing 14-3 to New Mexico at home for a rare -4 point loss.

And Clemson lands a KO punch to Scott LeDoux in his double game. 4-4 in doublers this year. Son, that just ain’t gonna cut it.

Halloween kills

The witching season is upon us. And strange happenings in the College Football Pool.

Mike Lynn scores a season-low 25 points (3-3) and takes the overall lead.

John McKay’s Liberty Flames (32 point faves) lose to ULM, he scores 17 points coming back to the pack.

Meathead’s Iowa lads score 7 at home – against Purdue? But the Dawgs pile up more points against another ranked foe. He scores 42 and sits in 3rd.

Eli miraculously wins the week with 6-0 mark and 56 points. He climbs back into the hunt.

Bevo goes 3-3 Go Pig Sooey! and drops to 5th.

The Hagg leads a respectable week at the bottom, but a big gap from 5th to 6th.

Zendejas gets another loss from Nebraska. The pride cameth. The fall continuith,

And Scott LeDoux keeps flailing away,

Doink!

Zendejas proclaims: This is a “Statement Week”

Wide left – Oregon St -3.5 loses to Washington St.

Wide right – W Michigan -11 loses to Ball St at home.

Hits the upright – UNC -17.5 loses to Florida State.

Hits the Crossbar, Gets returned for TD – Nebraska (2X game) fumbles away a win to Michigan.

The “Statement”? – Wait til next year! 3 points for the week, he plummets to 7th place.

Meathead (6-0) climbs the charts with hits by Georgia (20pts) and Iowa (11pts). He wins the week with 57 points and has the top 2 teams in the land on his roster.

John McKay stumbled (a bit) as BYU and Toledo took home losses.

Mike Lynn’s Memphis Tigers continue to lose games, his only ding this week.

Bevo’s #1 pick (OU) rallied against Texas, an injury-plagued loss by Penn State in his doubler was his downfall.

A miracle! Alabama loses as a double-digit favorite! Eli Gemstone sees the dark side in a double game for his only loss of the week.

The Hagg flounders in 6th place- Va Tech, USC, WKU – all home losers.

And Scott LeDoux keeps on swinging (Don’t stop it! I still gotta chance).
