Power 5 struggles continue.

Week 3 turns out to be another surprising one in the normally very predictable world of pre-conference major college football.

UNLV and BYU beat SEC opponents. Bama struggles at USF.

In the Big 12 – Cincinnati and Iowa State lose to MAC foes and Okie State gets drilled 33-7 by So. Alabama of the Sun Belt.

The upsets took a bite out of our pool this week, the biggest hunk of flesh coming from Billy Ray. Vandy’s loss to UNLV, Pitt scores only 7 points in a loss in the Backyard Brawl, and Tennessee gets swamped by the Gators in his double game. A season-low 13 points for his achy-breakyness. He falls to last place dragging the Sisters of the Poor into an unfamiliar world – losing to Murderer’s Row.

Bruce Dickinson moves to first, with a big road double win from Penn State over Illinois. LSU gets the roadie at Starkville and Fresno pitches a shutout at ASU. BYU upsets Arkansas, but he wins the week with 51 points.

Artie Fufkin wins 6 games but goes 1-2 vs the spread. 4 teams get defensive points- he sits in 2nd place. The Irish take on the Buckeyes this weekend in the ultimate Lazarus-type game. Who’s ass gets kicked, Artie?

Reggie goes 3-2 vs. the spread this week, finally getting a break from the oddsmakers. His Washington Huskies have been the most dominant team in the first 3 weeks and Georgia has been unspectacular but still Georgia. He’s our lone 18-0 guy in 3rd place.

Ralph Malph continues the 5-1 trend with the Bearcats losing at home to Miami Ohio. The Seminoles eke out a win at Boston College in his double game. He’s tied with Doorman for the lousiest of the best in 4th place.

Doorman scores 50 for the week going 6-0. Memphis gets a no-cover double win over Navy. 4-2 vs the spread though – he doubled poorly.

EB Beaumont slides to 6th place with an uninspired double win by Bama struggling through quarterbacks at USF. EB keeps telling us he believes in the Tide, I guess we’ll see how much he believes this week vs. Ole Miss.

Jimmy C enjoys a perfect 6-0 week in Chapel Hill. The setting was glorious, the tailgating divine, but the boat didn’t have quite enough oars this trip. A nice double win by Miami, Michigan continues plowing through the pre-season. Running out of FCS opponents now, we’ll see what his team and the Wolverines are really made of.
